3 chords and the truth. That’s all you need in music, and the same goes for art. I only use 3 colors + white (not a color) on every painting I paint. Along with the truth, it’s all you need. Whenever I need to include a handful of human-made elements in a painting (cars, surfboards, kayaks, boats, etc) I often make them red, yellow, blue and white in honor of the primary colors from which all others are mixed.
