The Burning Bush

Someday soon I’m going to burst into flames
Maybe Friday
If it’s a nice morning
I’ll light up like the fifty one warheads
Haphazardly placed in my birthday cake
And at last when the hazmat suits
Finally come crawling up from their shelters
To sweep up my snowy ashes
Squinting in the virgin light
They will ask
Yes, on that day they will ask
Where did heaven and the earth go?
Where did the sky and the birds go?
On that day
You will all be with me
And we will have but one body
And it will be a fashioned of stone and soil
Of water and light
And we will have but one spirit
And it will be the breeze
That caresses the windswept tree
While we watch a brilliant orange butterfly
Alight softly
Upon a twisted root
Fanning her wings
And calling forth her pure-hearted siblings
Until the entire tree of life
Is engulfed in flames
That leave nothing behind
Yes, on that day we will all be still
And finally know
That I Am
