The Coast Road

It’s not always intentional
When humanity is erased
When strip malls and donut shops
Are leveled in the blink of an eye
When paved roads are pulverized
Back to rutted earth
Without a second thought

I don’t mean to do this
In my haste
I get sloppy
And the brush doesn’t seem to care
One bit how I or anyone else feels about it
Scrussh schrushh schrurush it goes
Across the canvas
The quiet sound
Of a time machine
Setting the landscape back
At least a hundred years
