LOOSELY BASED ON A RON STONER PHOTOGRAPH

There’s a shot Ron Stoner took of Skip Frye paddling out on a glassy California-perfect day with a couple of pelicans gliding by on the outside that has been burned into the collective psyche of surfers everywhere as a vision of purity and perfection. That was the starting point for this tribute to Skip Frye, painted from start to finish in the presence of Skip himself as he was honored at the 2017 San Diego Surf Film Festival.
