Del Norte

Rivers, raw coastline and rough-hewn beauty… this is the only county in California with just one actual city within its borders. Correctly pronounced “Del Nort”, not due to clueless gringos, but to the Azorean Portugese dairy farmers who wouldn’t have emphasized that trailing “e”. They were the first Europeans to settle here after being named Del Norte by the Spaniards, who didn’t like traveling this far north due to the cold, wet climate and lack of good bell peppers.
