In conjunction with the San Diego Surf Film Festival,  artists Matt Beard, Skye Walker, Joe Hodnicki, and photographer Gage Hingeley will be showing their work at the SurfIndian in Pacific Beach.  The opening night on May 8th is an exclusive event for the Film Festival’s film makers, Nautilus Pass holders, media and VIP.  Live art will be on tap, live music, live people and piles of fun.

The Film Festival, now in it’s second year, is the common ground for each of the artists.  Northern California artist Matt Beard created this years film festival poster art.  East coast artist Joe Hodnicki was the featured artist last year and San Diego’s own Sky Walker has been involved from the start and is on tap to create the event artwork next year.  Gage Hingely is the official event photographer.  Yep.  Ok, that’s them.

During the course of the night Beard, Hodnicki, and Walker will be creating live art that will be created from start to finish over the course of the 5 day festival, during which time bids will be collected and at the close of the event on Sunday each one will go to the highest bid whether it’s 2o bucks or 2 million bucks, and 100% of that amount will go to one of three non-profits being featured and supported by the SDSFF: ReSurf, Share the Stoke Foundation, and Urban Surf 4 Kids.

On the opening night there will also be a screening of the Campbell brothers film Bonzer: The Mothership and live music from the Saline Salutions.  So get your grom-stoke on and enjoy!

The show itself will be up and open to the public through June 24 or so…  go check it.  Matt Beard will be showing many unseen ink drawings, some new paintings, and some of his favorite pieces in various printed formats as well.  He has no idea what the other guys will bring but he’s sure it’ll be sick.  Go.

Each year on the North Coast there’s a large scale effort made to get as many artists as possible to open thier studios for the public to come and scope and pester and score cheap arts.  I’ve participated off and on in the past, but now that I have a public space I’m chained to all year round I figured it would be a good time to make this happen.

More details will follow, but for now, mark your calendars.  It’s a no brainer, even if you come out and don’t like my art and there’s no one here and you don’t want to hang around you can go next door and get an epic burrito.

And speaking of scoring cheap arts…  (good luck with an original, they aren’t cheap.  ever.)  but from now until this opening I’m offering some ridiculous good deals on a few things.  The best deal being large canvas limited edition prints of your choice for… I’m not telling here ,they’re too cheap, but you can find out over here.

Yep. Posters.  To go along with the recent opening of my little BeardArt art fort/gallery/studio I selected 6 different images and had posters made so that I could make it easier than ever to give art as a gift or enjoy in your home while barely affecting your budget at all.

Since the gallery is here in Eureka, the melting pot of Humboldt County, I figured I’d go with some of my favorite local images.  5 of these are specific places on our nearby coastline, and one of them, “The Shack”, is just inspired by the northern California coastal experience.

These are all 18″ x 24″ posters on a lightweight paper, printed with soy based inks, and for a limited time they only cost ten bucks each in my gallery, or $15 each if purchased via “donation” below.  The best deal though is to grab all six as a set for $40 in the gallery or $50 via “donation” below.  (The additional cost for the online “donations” just covers the shipping.)

For the month of March, many of my original ink drawings will be showing for the first time anywhere at the Wine Spot in Eureka.    I’m showing them alongside artwork from the legendary local art master Sonny Wong and couldn’t be more stoked.  Go have a glass of great wine and take a look, you’ll be stoked.

I’m always stoked when I get the opportunity to put on a live art performance with one of my favorite groups of musicians, Humboldt County’s Likwefi.  We’ve been ramping up our efforts to be part of some pretty incredible events over the last year or so, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

Our next performance will be Saturday, March 2nd at the Redwood Acres Fairground in Eureka.  The event is a community effort of massive scale to provide support and encouragement to Jan Perrone, a woman who has given much to the local community as a midwife, teacher and friend to many.  She is currently battling brain cancer, and as a community we won’t let her do it alone.

The art piece that results from the live art perfomance with Likwefi will be auctioned that evening with all of the proceeds going to help Jan with the mounting costs of her treatment.  This is what art is about for me, and it doesn’t get any better than this.   See you there!

I was pretty happy to see this the other day.  The folks at Patagonia wanted to use my painting “The Shack” for a t-shirt over a year ago, and I had just about forgot about it when this popped up.  As of now it’s not available from their site, but they assured me it’s coming soon.  Stay posted!
